Goal average in World Cup 2010 remains record low

 

The average goal count in the World Cup 2010 in South Africa remains a record low in the history of world football championships. 56 matches (48 matches in the group stage and 81/8 finals in the world championship have already been played). In those matches the competing teams scored only 123 goals, which is an average of 2.2 goals per game. The previous lowest performance was in the World Cup 1990 in Italy. Then the teams scored an average of 2.21 goals per match.

Utah Jazz: Wesley Matthews, Kyrylo Fesenko get qualifying offers

 

The NBA Utah Jazz made contract qualifying offers for next season to both point guard Wesley Matthews and backup center Kyrylo Fesenko, formally making both restricted free agents when the NBA´s summer shopping market opens late Wednesday night. Though Wednesday is the deadline for making qualifying offers to prospective restricted free agents, the Jazz made submitted their offers on Monday. Fesenko´s offer is for $1.087 mn and Matthews´ is for $937,135, based on current collective bargaining agreement rules between the NBA and its players’ association.

Ukrainian fencers take it all

 

Ukrainian fencers gave an extraordinary performance at the Fencing World Cup stage in Buenos Aires, Argentina, having earned three of the four top places on the podium, reported Dariya Nedashkivska, Press Secretary of the National Fencing Federation of Ukraine.

Dmitriy Karuchenko won the tournament this weekend beating Dutch fencer Bas Verwijlen 6:5. Third place was split among Maksym Khvorost, beaten by Karuchenko 12:15, and Anatoliy Herey, who lost by only one point to Verwijlen – 14:15. The Ukrainians were not lucky with drawing at this tournament. At first, Ihor Reyzlin and Bohdan Nikishin dueled in the round of 64. Nikishin defeated Reyzlin 15:10, but in the next stage he lost to Khvorost 13:15. Another Ukrainian Vitaly Osharov lost to Kelsey Weston 10:15 in the round of 64.
