Vuvuzelas traumatize fans

 

The first trauma caused by vuvuzela was registered at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. A 29-year-old South African woman, a fan of England, came to doctors after feeling pain in her throat after she blew vuvuzela at the stadium for several days. At first, the fan thought she caught cold, but the pain grew worse. At the doctor appointment it turned out that as a result of active blowing on a vuvuzela, the woman suffered from vocal cord burst. Let us remind you, the football fans in South Africa were officially allowed to use vuvuzelas.

Kyivan wins tennis tournament

 

Ukrainian tennis player Serhiy Stakhovsky won the third ATP World Tour singles title in his career. In the final of UNICEF Open with the prize purse of EUR 450,000, Kyivan swept seventh-seeded Serbian Janko Tipsarevic 6-3, 6-0. For the first time, Stakhovsky won the tournament without participating in the qualifying rounds. In Zagred, the Ukrainian got into the main tournament as a lucky loser and in St. Petersburg as one of the winners of the qualifying round.

Unicef Open is the first title won by Stakhovsky on grass courts. He is also the first representative of Ukraine that won ATP tournament on grass.




SAR switches to quiet vuvuzelas

 

A South African company manufacturing popular among football fans horns vuvuzelas announced the start of production of their quieter version. The power of sound made by the new type of vuvuzelas will be around 107 decibel, which is 20 decibel less than usual vuvuzelas make, reported lenta.ru.

A recent study showed that a vuvuzela makes a sound of around 127 dB beating the drum (122 dB) and the referee’s whistle (121.8 dB). After the start of the World Cup, its organizers received many complaints from the fans, players and also TV companies broadcasting the games. Chairman of the World Cup 2010 Organizing Committee Danny Jordan promised to consider the issue about prohibiting the use of far too noisy vuvuzelas.

Ukrainian strongmen beat Europe team

 

A face-off between Ukrainian strongmen and team of Europe took place in Truskavets. Ukrainians triumphed over Europeans 5:2. For the first time, Ukrainian strongmen were competing without their leader Vasyl Virastyuk. This time, the Strongest Man in the World was a judge. The Ukrainian team was led by Oleksandr Lashyn from Mariupol. The tournament consisted of seven events.

Lakers become NBA champs for the 16th time

 

Los Angeles Lakers became champions of the NBA beating in the seventh game of the playoff finals Boston Celtics 83-79 (14-23, 20-17, 19-17, 30-22). Kobe Bryant was named MVP who spent almost 45 minutes on the court scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds. Guard Paul Pierce was the most contributing player for Boston scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. In the course of the game Lakers were behinds – they lost nine points in the first quarter. Nonetheless, in the remaining three quarters Lakers topped Celtics and managed to hold on to the 4-point lead on the last seconds of the fourth quarter. With 11 seconds left, Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic scored two free throws. The response of Celtics was a failed three-point attempts of Rajon Rondo. After that Bryant ran to receive congratulations of his teammates. Thus, Los Angeles Lakers won their 16th NBA Title in history. However, they are still one title short of Boston Celtics, who won 17 titles overall.
