The earnings of football referees in the world championships have been made public. Uzbeki Ravshan Irmatov, the only referee from a post-Soviet country to participate in the World Cup in South Africa, said in an interview for the Central Asian news service CA-News that FIFA will pay him US $30,000 for referring during the tournament and referees will receive an additional US $45,000 for every match.
In comparison, in the world championships in Germany in 2006 referees earned US $40,000 per match and a one-time royalty of US $20,000. Irmatov was named the best referee in Asia during the 2008/2009 football season. Irmatov’s compatriot Rafael Ilyasov and referee Bakhadir Kochkarov of Kirghizstan will be part of the team of referees for the world championship.
In total, 29 referees will be sent to South Africa to referee the matches. As a reminder, Spanish footballers were promised US $600,000 per player for a victory in this year’s world championship.

War could prevent F1 Grand Prix
The first in the history of Korea Formula 1 race scheduled to take place in October of this year may be canceled. This time it is not organizational problems that threaten the grand prix, rather military actions that could potentially flare up on the peninsula due to recently aggravated relations between South and North Korea. As a reminder, South Korea accused North Korea of attacking a military ship as a result of which 46 sailors died.
“If combat actions begin, Formula 1 will not be there for sure,” said F1 President Bernie Ecclestone.
According to Finnish Turun Sanomat, the current political situation could slow down the construction of the racetrack, which has yet to be completed.
At the same time, the race teams are not ready to send their equipment to Korea until the local grand prix is not provided with security guarantees. Moreover, so far not a single team has booked airline tickets and hotel accommodation, though everything is already planned for later races in Brazil and Abu-Dhabi.
So, if F1 race in Korea is canceled, there will be a break or an entire month between the grand prix races in Japan and Brazil, which is a rare case in the F1 calendar.
