For several years the festival was held in the Mystetskiy Arsenal Museum Complex, but this year the Gogol Fest found a new home and was also brought out onto the streets. The Spanish theater La Fura dels Baus and DAKH Kyiv theater will give joint performances of Multiverse on Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) in Kyiv on the festival’s opening day.

The Spanish troupe rose to prominence during the opening ceremony of the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. It will show its famous acrobatic composition – a human pyramid – in Kyiv. Around 100 gymnasts will take part in the show. A 10-meter tall human figure will be created on Maidan and the show representing the diversity of the universe will be followed by fireworks. The event will be broadcast on Ukrainian TV channels.

The rest of the events of the festival will take place at the Dovzhenko Film Studios. The French La Colline Theater will perform on September 4 and the Swiss PLASMA Theater will perform on September 6.

Sounds of music

The music program of the festival includes concerts, academic music and club parties. The festivals Jazz Koktebel and Jazz in Kyiv will present their programs within the framework of the Gogol Fest. Among participants in the show are Jazzsteppa from the UK, Opus Post from Moscow and the Khuun-Khuur-Tu ensemble from Tyva. Otter Children by Moscow neo-academic composer Vladimir Martynov is the special project during the festival. The program also includes a joint performance of Finnish accordionist Kimmo Pohjonen and the Ukrainian band Dakha Brakha.

The Visual Arts Program will present daily performances, installations and video arts. Visitors are welcome to see the works of such curators as Vardit Gross from Israel, Marat Gelman from the PERMM Contemporary Arts Museum in Perm, Olga Sviblova from the Multimedia Mainstream Arts Complex in Moscow, Maria Baibakova representing the Baibakov Art Project in Moscow, Anna Franz of Cyland Media Lab in New York, Kristina Steinbrecher of the Sputnik Art Foundation in Moscow, Olesya Turkina of the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg and Yevhen Solonin of the PinchukArtCenre in Kyiv.

The programs made of the best films over the past 2 years will be represented by Molodist IFF, Arthouse Traffic and Cinefantom.
