In the 6-3rd centuries B.C., the tribes belonging to Trypillian culture lived on the territory of Ukraine between the Dnipro and Dniester rivers. The term comes from the name of a Ukrainian village where Kyiv archeologist Vikentiy Khvoika was the first to unearth the artifacts of this culture. The Trypillians engaged in farming and animal husbandry, made ceramic crockery decorated with their spiral ornamentation, typical for their culture.
During the presidency of Viktor Yushchenko the Trypillian culture became officially associated with the early stages of the formation of Ukrainian identity and Trypillian ceramics were included in retrospective image exhibits of Ukrainian art.
It was on this wave that the eco-cultural festival Trypillian Circle emerged, the main concept being to revitaliza ancient history and forgotten traditions by taking them out of museum displays.
As one of the directors of the festival Oleksandr Ivanov explained, this is the reason the third Trypillian Circle festival program includes toloka, traditional communal construction of Trypillian houses, preparation of ceramic crockery and anthropomorphic figures and ritual communication with home pets typical for Trypillians, i.e. cows, horses, goats and pigs.
Ìisitors of the Trypillian Circle can check out an exhibit of traditional Ukrainian handicrafts and presentations of foreign cultural centers, listen to the live music of famous folklore, ethno-rock and rock bands and participate in the pagan Kupala mystery.
The territory of the festival will be alcohol-, tobacco- and drug-free zone.
