On March 31, the Kyiv Golf Club hosted an extraordinary event called An Evening of Arab Culture. The peculiarity of the event was that it was organized by the wives of the ambassadors of eight Arab countries in Ukraine, including Kuwait, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Morroco, Palestine, Saudi Arabia and Syria. This is the first women’s initiative aimed at sharing traditions, cultures and art of Arab people with Ukrainians. The organizers say that although these countries share a common language, their cultures are unique and different from each other

The event opened with a fashion show of traditional national costumes. Egypt, the first on the runway, featured massive gold jewelry, while Syria focused on colorful patterns on outfits. The costumes that were featured at the show are not often worn in everyday life, but rather for special occasions, such as receptions or national holidays on which Arab women gladly show off. Fashion designers also actively use the motifs and patterns of national costumes in their modern collections. The wives of Arab ambassadors say that a woman is always a woman and will always try to dress smartly and be unique.

The most impressive part of the evening was a show of traditional costumes of Libya in which the organizers dressed Libyan children to walk the runway. They were in traditional costumes worn for festive occasions and in everyday life and looked particularly sweet and proud of having been granted the honor to represent the fashion culture of their country.
Representatives of other foreign missions in Kyiv, including the Korean ambassador, the wife of the Ambassador of the Netherlands Mrs. Wolthers, who said she actively communicates with other women of the diplomatic corps, attended the event.
Korean Ambassador Park Ro-byug was very pleased with the event: “I really enjoyed the fashion show.”
Mrs. Wolthers also seemed to be impressed by the fashion show. “I was really impressed with the show put on by Libya,” she said, adding “In fact, I have always envied them for their beautiful and colorful costumes.”
