European companies are blamed for exporting equipment for torturing or other types of inhumane treatment around the world. Representatives of human rights organizations Amnesty International and the Omega Research Foundation claim that EU countries should fulfill their obligations to combat torture. In 2006, the EU was the world´s first to establish rules prohibiting the international trade in the equipment the only practical application of which is the implementation of the death penalty, torture or other forms of inhumane treatment.
