A source inside diplomatic circles in Brussels says the European Union wants to help Ukraine without forcing it to make a choice between the EU and Russia with a reference to current talks between ministers of foreign affairs of EU member countries with respect to Ukraine.
“There is a consensus in the Foreign Affairs Council on the need to assist Ukraine without pushing it to make a decision between the EU and Russia,” according to a source at UNIAN.
The source informed that several ministers pointed out that they are receiving “mixed signals” from official Kyiv. In particular, the source said ministers of Bulgaria, Poland and Cyprus stated this.
The source also said a number of ministers pointed to the fact that Ukraine cannot simultaneously be a member of a Customs Union with Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus and enter a free trade agreement with the European Union.
In the course of these talks, the issue of rendering assistance to Ukraine in reform of the gas sector was also raised.
