Cabinet stuns Europe with strength in numbers

The government of Mykola Azarov´ has broken several European records, reported Die Deutsche Welle.

As is generally known Azarov´s Cabinet consists of 29 ministers. No European country has such a large number of members in their governments.

"In any ordinary democratic European government, there are 16-18 cabinet ministers, including premiers and their deputies. Specifically, this is number of portfolios in the governments of Germany, Portugal and Spain," Die Deutsche Welle reports.

The governments of France and Sweden have more ministers - 20 and 22, respectively. Italy holds EU record with 24 ministers in its government.

"Ten officials in Rome are ministers without portfolios. They are considered to be members of the Cabinet responsible for certain sectors of work, but have no large ministerial powers or apparatus," reported the source.

Only the government of Belarus could be compared to the Ukrainian Cabinet in terms of the number of ministers. 30 officials work in the Council of Ministers of Belarus. Collective decisions are usually made jointly with the panel of the Council of Ministers, which consists of only 10 officials. Moreover, the Ukrainian government is the only European government that has no women in it.

"This cabinet is a unique one in contemporary Europe. As a rule, European governments have several female members. Any southern or Eastern European country, where there are very few female politicians, has at least one or two women in the government," Die Deutsche Welle reported.
