Last year, 20% less foreigners (5 million in absolute figures) visited Ukraine, according to the State Statistics Committee. The number of tourists and businessmen was notably lower, but the flow of workers and immigrants who come to Ukraine for permanent residence was three times less. Meanwhile, the number of foreign students in Ukraine nearly doubled.
"It is understood that the decline in the number of tourists and businessmen visiting Ukraine was due to the crisis. But we should be proud of the fact that foreign students come to study in Ukraine. This means a Ukrainian education is not so bad if students come here from Russia, Poland and China,” said a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Human Rights, Minorities and Interethnic Relations Yuriy Hnatkevych. “But the national composite of labor migrants and those who have chosen Ukraine as their new homeland is truly shocking. It turns out that Israeli citizens are in third place in terms of the number of labor migrants after Russians and Moldovans. They are greater in number than Turks, Vietnamese and Caucasians. Among the immigrants Turks and Poles are the leaders followed by Russians and Germans,” added Hnatkevych.
