Youngsters to face off at the 2010 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship in Brovary, Ukraine

President of the Ice Hockey Federation of Ukraine (IHFU) Anatoliy Brezvyn said Ukraine is ready to host the 2010 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship (2nd division group B) in Brovary (Kyiv oblast) on March 22-28. Brezvyn added that all financial and organizational issues have been successfully resolved.

IHFU Vice President Oleksandr Sopyt added that the International Ice Hockey Federation approved Brovary as the site for this year’s championship.

Teams from Slovenia and the Netherlands will be the main rivals for Ukraine’s junior national team. 6 teams representing Ukraine, Slovenia, Australia, the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain will face off against each other to earn a spot in the 1st division. IHFU representatives noted that tickets for the games will be affordable at UAH 26 for adults and UAH 13 for kids under 14.

Lys Mykyta (Mykyta the Fox character from a fairy tale by Ivan Franko) was named the mascot of this year’s junior hockey championship. The games will be aired live on Ukraine’s first national TV channel UT-1.
