The police will conduct a month-long campaign for the voluntary surrender of weapons, ammunition, explosive devices and special substances from September 1-30. The campaign is intended to make citizens aware that the illegal harboring of weapons, ammunition and explosive devices is a crime subject to criminal liability, the Interior Ministry said is a press release. “Citizens that voluntarily turn in their weapons, ammunition and other substances they posess illegally will be exonerated from criminal liability.” the statement said.

If a citizen voluntarily turns in hunting firearms, cold steel and gas weapons, in the future they will have a chance to register such weapons as personal property and use them on legal grounds after processing of the corresponding documents.

The police department reminded that domestically manufactured devices for shooting cartridges loaded with non-lethal rubber bullets must be registered in cases and along with the procedures stipulated by the current legislation. Posession of unregistered weapons is not only a violation of the law, but also the cause of unfortunate accidents that citizens and their underage children end up in.
