The state railway administration Ukrzaliznytsia intends to increase freight car purchases by 2,200 to 6,000 per year in 2011. Ukrzaliznytsia´s Deputy General Director Viktor Chornyi told a roundtable conference with representatives of the industry that the company’s financial plan for this year provides for purchase of 2,200 freight cars. He said Ukrainian railroads transported more than 205 mn tons of cargo during the period of January-June, which is 15% more than the 178 mn tons of cargo that they transported in the first half of 2009. The company presently runs a fleet of 59,900 freight cars.
