The International Monetary Fund considers a 2010 state budget deficit equal to 6% of the GDP acceptable for resumption of cooperation with Ukraine.

“The figure [of the acceptable deficit of the 2010 state budget] that came out of the mouth of the IMF, including recapitalization of banks and the Naftohaz Ukrainy national joint-stock company, is about 6% [of the GDP],” Presidential Administration´s first deputy head Iryna Akymova said.

At the same time, she stressed that the size of the deficit would still be discussed and could be reviewed. “It is not a dogma, it is a landmark that one can look at reasonably, pragmatically and continue to discuss a program for reform,” she said.
